Lawyers and legal services are expensive, regardless of whether the client is a multi-national financial institution or a small business seeking to enforce a contract. This expense, which is not always predictable, is the reason why so many cases settle, especially cases within relatively predictable value limits. Cases that proceed to trial almost always contain some factual questions that bear on liability, damages or both—that is, some uncertainty—and getting to the finish line in such cases is a years-long commitment for both client and counsel. For over 20 years, Mike has handled cases, as both plaintiff’s counsel and as defense counsel, in jury and non-jury trials in Tennessee state and federal trial courts. He has won and lost. He also maintains an active appellate practice and has successfully argued cases before the Tennessee Court of Appeals and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
